    Excellent

The most exhaustive & systematic exploration of story I have ever read. The concepts introduced can be complex but are easily understood through the many examples given. I wouldn't say I've mastered the process or that it's easy in practice--the author makes it clear that he's not presenting the easiest way to create a story--but I have learned a lot from this book & have learned to look at story and its elements in a new light.

    Best Find of 2018

Incredibly helpful to writing my scripts. I’ve grown as a writer and the story I used as a practical way to apply the steps has now evolved ten fold. Best find of 2018 to kick me into the new year.

A seminal read for the beginning storyteller

An illustrator creates a sketch before committing even a single stroke toward line-art, because with that so wonderfully malleable sketch, they can be sure that there are no major flaws in the elements at play and their overall composition. This principle is, in my view, no less essential in writing. Any budding storyteller in any medium can further their craft by studying the principles laid out in this book. Some may feel that this step-by-step approach is too much science and not enough art, but really it is a marriage of both; it’s immensely helpful to be readily aware of all the elements that go into a great story, and there is a reassuring sense of security to know that you’ve developed all of those elements in your own unique style before you’ve so much as thought about the first draft.
