    Uplifting

There's more known about the American 'Rosie the Riveter' than there is about the women who did the dirty, dangerous munitions jobs in Britain during WWII. This novel is a welcome correction and goes a long way to telling the stories of women on the British homefront. The characters in this novel - the six women who shared the cowshed at varying times - made the Phoenix bomb factory seem very real. Alice, Emily, Lilian, Elsie and Agnes are introduced to us in the opening chapters and their wartime experiences echo the worry, the mind-numbing work, the effect on relationships and the patriotism and sacrifices they shared. The novel makes no bones about the way female conscription brought together women from such disparate backgrounds, from the illiterate Elsie, prevented from going to school by a brutish and brutal father, to the highly educated Alice and Daphne the debutante. These characters will stay with me for a long time as will their ultimate fates.

I loved it. I liked following the women's day to day lives and when I closed the book I couldn't wait to open it again. I have only just started Bomb Girls Secrets

    Brilliant read.

I read this book in 2 days, it's a gripping novel and you really get to know the characters, they spring to life from the pages. I've now decided to read all the books in the series by Daisy Styles. My Mom worked in a Munitions factory during WW2 and I now regret not asking her more about it as Mom isn't with us anymore. By reading these books I can have a better understanding of what these women went through during the war.
