    I couldn't put it down!

Brilliant book, I devoured the medical aspects with relish but loved more the background stories behind the deaths. I also appreciated how the author also brought you, at times, into his own family life.

    Highly recommended

As a work of non-fiction, this is a rattling good read – informative, thoughtful and humane.

    Fantastic

a fast paced and enjoyable read from an incredibly intelligent man. Very fascinating to see life from his eyes for a while. This book has given me such respect for pathologists. Highly recommend.

    Very appropriate title

I thought the book was very interesting. It gave a good insight into the job of a pathologist and how things are not always as they seem.

A very well written and interesting read

I have often wondered how pathologists can continue to work, year after year, in such a morbid occupation. This book shows it can be done whilst still retaining empathy and compassion. As the writer states in regard to his investigation on his friend's body, he regarded it as honouring his friend and his life. What a remarkable way to cope with what must have been a very distressing duty. I found it was impossible to read too many chapters in quick succession, but was more comfortable picking up the book every few days to read a chapter or two only. My congratulations to the good doctor who has devoted his life to a profession which is necessary for the law to be upheld, but even more impotantly necessary for loved ones to understand "Why".
