    Excellent reading!

Thoroughly enjoyed the book from beginning to end. Exceedingly well written, it's one of those books you cannot put down, do I recommend it? Absolutely! Enjoy!

Disappointed with a much hyped book

This book was really promising right up til... THE END. It had the makings of a great mystery: a gruesome death, a group of flawed friends, each with their own secrets, a possible murderer still on the loose. The big reveal just wasn't credible and worst of all the narrator is revealed to be completely unreliable (early onset Alzheimer's hinted at in the last paragraphs where there had been no clue before apart from mentioning his own father's battle with it) and possibly a psychopath, definitely a sociopath. Super super disappointing especially since the novel had so much hype.

    Riveting

I loved this book. The cliffhangers gave me the willies at bedtime, but I eagerly pounced into bed the following night to read the next chapter. An excellent buildup to an exciting climax!

    SPOILERS! King copycat SPOILERS!

I enjoyed the style and pace of the novel but there's not much else to praise. The plot is an unoriginal mix of several Stephen King stories (It: the Losers Club again with different names and parallel timelines; Stand by me: the kids finding a corpse in the woods and the big brother as a bully; Black House: elderly catatonic man from a care home turns out to be the bad guy, etc. Even the name of Halloran is from King). To make matters worse, the supernatural parts of the novel are completely useless and aren't connected to the soryline. They are just there to try and make it creepy but have nothing to do with the solution and ending of the novel, they are just pointless. All in all, it's just unoriginal fan fiction lacking the slightest spark of creativity. At least the editor was good and trimmed it down to an afternoon's read of smooth prose.
