  • Worth reading

Unusual flawed but complex main character. Excellent unexpected ending.

  • Pulled me along

An unusual example in this genre: the main character a pretend private detective with quite a few problems. I hadn't read the first in the series which I think did not help. But the story was interesting, and Slim's regression to his alcohol dependency was well drawn and believable. The end was unexpected in a couple of different aspects, at least one of which was a "card up the sleeve" trick that could probably have been mentioned much earlier and still been a surprise at the revelation.

  • The Clockmaker's Secret

Would not recommend this book. To slow paced and not a good mystery. More about a disfunctional family and an alcoholic.

  • A complex story

PI Slim Hardy went to Cornwall to recover from his latest case. Instead he finds a buried clock and spends his time investigating the disappearance of the clockmaker. A complex story. All the parts were believable and the characters were fascinating. The resolutions were not standard but each one was a good answer to the situations. [Reviewed on Goodreads on March 23, 2019]
