  • Delightful

Many different relationships abound in this example from Barnaby Adair's casebook. It's always a delight coming back to the Adairs, the Stokes and the Montagues. Even though they are from different levels in tonnish society, the deep friendships between the three couples snd their children allow them to interact in a well-oiled way to solve the crimes put before them. This book is a delight, not just because of the growing relationship between Cara and Hugo, but because of the insight the book gives us into the different ways families operate and how they are bound together. I particularly like the way Lord Carisbrook can be so generous and understanding in the face of what could be an unbelievable scandal. I look forward to the next instalment in this wonderful series and a return to six very appealing characters.

  • Fakes!

A satisfying ending to a mystery with no real villains. A missing necklace and a dead body, combined with members of high society who are not always what they seem creates an interesting set of complications. The main characters are familiar to readers of Stephanie’s novels and this makes this story as comfortable to read as a pair of good winter slippers. There is good dialogue amongst the characters in the story. This allows the reader to form opinions about them and create their personalities. You do not need to have read any other books by Stephanie, but it may convince you to go on and read some.

  • Another great read in the series

Another great read in the Barnaby Adair series. Good characters and nice plot full of intrigue. Don't want to stop reading these books and then want to start the next in the series straight away. Thanks Staphanie for the great lock-down reads.
