  • Excellent .

This autobiography forms the second part of Anchee Min's first one , the famous Red Azalea. It tells of her arrival in America and what a roller coaster ride she takes us on. A classic about a Migrants dire struggles pursuing the AmericanDream with such an unpromising beginning in Chicago . Their she attends an Chicago Art School ( guaranteed no job prospects the director warns all student graduates ), rape ,menial jobs , freezing winters , a loveless marriage that produces a daughter, the love of her life . Yet at the end she overcomes her adversities with dogged persistence and a never give up "can do" attitude .Yes , she does meet the love of her life , but I will l eave that remarkable story for the reader .Anchee Min's style ( like Red Azalea ) is simple ,direct, poetic with a refreshing beguiling honesty. The only thing that is missing is something about how she learnt to write given she arrived in the US with practically no knowledge of English .Another book or essay about that someday ?
