Grand space opera at its best

So so much better than I expected given the thin and terse summary, this is by far the best space opera I've read this year (ok, excluding The Expanse series). And a wonderful cast of characters, especially the foul mouthed Admiral.

    Excellent read.

Great read, very much in the style of John Birmingham. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Cruel Stars - John Birmingham

Birmingham at his best. How he manages to cram a ripping adventure, unforgettable characters, unbelievably vulgar scatology and unstoppable belly laughs into one novel is beyond me. But Birmingham manages to do so and he does it so well! He is unique and completely original; I think they broke the mould after they made this one.
