  • Concise history

A short, factual history of the crusades along with an analysis of the impact on European society. Contrary to another review, there is no religious bias.

  • Exciting and informative

This book is a broad outline of the crusades but is detailed enough to point out the key actors, locations and events as well as how some elements have remained with us or influenced us up to the present day. This was an enjoyable read.

  • Good historical read

Especially liked the last bit about the fading of the knights due to the rise of the merchant class. The chapters on the battle at Falkirk and the battles in Belgium were particularly interesting in how the skill of the knights could not overcome the mass of the beginnings of militia like armies.

  • Anti Christian bias

The crusades were a plight to save Christians being slaughtered by Non Christians yet the author seems to blame Christians for the whole thing. If you are a proud Christian or believe in truthful reporting of history, do not read this book,
