  • Very interesting complex story well worth reading

Fits well with the prior books in the series but reaches beyond with new types of characters and more complex twists and turns. An interesting and more complex story well worth reading.

  • Great story

Great plot with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Introduced new characters which kept the story interesting right to the final page.

  • Who wins this chess game?

Such a convoluted plot, with any number of possible perpetrators, different types of smuggling and a dangerous rivalry between Denis and his arch-nemesis, Creasey. How apt that a major plot point was based on the strategies involved in playing chess, with so many pieces involved and any number of twists and turns to get to the endgame. A highly satisfying ending with plenty of red herrings along the way, leaving an opening for the next instalment of Captain Lacey's investigating prowess. I feel bereft now because I have read all the Captain Lacey books available thus far and really need another dose of the dynamics of the Lacey family.

    Thanks for your feedback!
