  • Rising above circumstances

This was my least favourite novel of Julie Klassen, yet it is still very good. It`s a story of the classes and rising above scandalous circumstances. Past and present collide, and `the apple truly doesn`t fall very far from the tree`. There are twists in the plot that one doesn`t really see coming, yet it all makes sense in the very end. I love the depth of characters that Julie Klassen gives to each one, and how her storylines aren`t always that predictable. I like the flow of her writing and would put it on par with later works of Debbie Macomber, Karen Kingsbury and Beverly Lewis. The story itself is reminiscent of Jane Austen novels (and set in the same time period, as well as country). Rich girl falls in love with a little more than glorified servant (dancing master), who is trying to escape his past and establish himself in a town where his profession has been banished by said rich girl`s mother. Secrets. Secrets. And more secrets.....But a great resolution in the end.

    Thanks for your feedback!
