    Medieval Italian Short Stories

Translation by G.H. McWilliam into English of Boccaccio’s Decameron, a collection of short stories written and set in Italy at the time of the Black Death. The scholarly and very readable introduction puts the work into it’s literary and historic context. The translation itself appears unfussy and all of the stories are entertaining and often amusing. McWilliam’s footnotes are essential to the reader unacquainted with Boccaccio or medieval Florence. Each story is fairly brief and I found the work to make excellent bedtime reading.
