  • Delightful and emotional read.

I seriously loved this book and I use the word “serious” consciously because the book does deal with some serious subject matters - how do you fall in love, what is beauty, can only “beautiful” people be loved, how does society treat people deemed not beautiful or who are more harshly labelled ugly? These considerations may have been exaggerated in the historical times depicted in the novel with the marriage mart but unfortunately are still all too relevant to too many people. I so felt for the heroine Eliza who had been labelled at best as plain and appreciated the strength of character that she portrayed when hit with hurtful comments and actions. I loved how Dax the hero eventually figured out that looks are only skin deep and personality and temperament have more to do with truly falling in love with a person versus infatuation or even desire. There was, however, some nice heat in this story and a wonderful happily ever after ending. I hope that there are many future books in this new series - I can definitely imagine the possibilities from the characters already introduced. An emotional, entertaining and enlightening start to the series.

  • The Duke and the Wallflower

I loved Jessie's depiction of the character The Wallflower. So different from the usual heroine in Regency books. It made for interesting reading. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

  • Beautiful

From the very beginning of the story, I was hooked! I just love this romance story with realistic characters who are imperfect and very relatable. I couldn't stop rooting for strong Eliza who showed everyone how beautiful she is. This is my first book written by Jessie Clever and it certainly didn't disappoint. I plan on reading more, that's for sure, starting with the next from the story with Louisa and the Beastly Duke, Eliza's sister and Dax's best friend. Yeah!
