  • A Timely Tale

Having read all the Chronicles of Elantra, thus far, I have always wondered what Severin's backstory was. This provides an initial insight, while leaving so much room for further tales about his life leading up to where the original Chronicles begin. Obviously, I am hoping additional stories will follow because of the itegral part he played in the series. However, I am glad that I read about Kaylin's life before reading this book, which puts me at odds with the listing with this as a prequel. That those who may be new the series may have a different appreciation for the series is hard for me to tell. I have enjoyed every book in this series and hope it will continue. This author has a writing style that allows the reader to appreciate the diverse characters personalities while weaving storylines that are resolved at the end of each book, while creating the foundation upon which future stories are built. It is rare for me to give five stars to any book, but this book, given my prior experience with the series, drew me in like few other books from a wide variety of authors have. My apologies for any typos, etc. Typing on an ebook is never easy;).

  • Meh... ending didn't close the gaps for me

Some cool ideas, but too many didn't make sense to me. I would rather the author spend more time on perfecting a few than cramming more in. The ending didn't really answer those questions, but it was well written otherwise.
