  • Worth reading the series!

I really liked the 2 books in this series. It was a very different world , with interesting characters. I read a lot of fantasy and it was refreshing to explore a new magical angle. Worth reading!

  • Margaret Owen is my new Auto-Buy Author

So now I will add Margaret Owen to my list of auto-buy authors. The sequel to THE MERCIFUL CROW led me on a roller coaster of emotions right until the end, and I could not stop reading. The story is packed with heartache, power, betrayal, and will. It is dark and beautiful and tragic and perfect. Fie discovers more about herself, faces a shocking betrayal, and finds herself caught in a web of secrets, spies, and horrifying truths. A good third of the plot felt like a spy thriller, and I spent a lot of it wondering what a certain character was up to. But Owen has a great talent of paying up on her promises, and making them worth every second of waiting. The characters continued to blow my mind. While I will always love Tavin, was thrilled with the journey Jasimir has been on, and really enjoyed Khoda, this was ultimately Fie’s story. Her complex relationships, her drive, her tenacity, and her desire for a better world were so empowering. I adore my chief. Much of the tension came from the atmosphere and impending sense of dread throughout the story. When something did happen, that tension paid off and continued to raise the stakes. Owen is an immensely talented author in this regard, and her prose is hauntingly beautiful. It’s hard to put into words how much I’ve loved this duology. It’s dark, ruthless, passionate, and gripping. I recommend it to all lovers of dark YA fantasy, and fans of stories with fierce young women willing to conquer and change the world.
