  • Historical Details, Riveting Mystery

I have read many of Andrew Taylor’s novels and he never disappoints. He is an accomplished writer and a master of the mystery genre. I especially enjoy his period stories. This tale unfolds in 17th century London, after the Great Fire, and provides historical details of the life and mores of that era. Woven into the story of the Fire Court (established to settle land disputes after the fire) are the threads of an insidious mystery which consumes the protagonist, James Marwood. His investigation involves murder, arson, danger and confusion, a heady mix that I could hardly put down!

  • Andrew Taylor writing at his best.

This is the second book in the James Marwood series. It picked up the thread of book 1 well and developed in a different direction. The story is gripping and the main characters, Marwood and Cat Lovett grow in stature. A very good read with loads of historical authenticity. I look forward to reading book 3.

  • Good plot

Good whodunnit and a nice read but with too many coincidences.
