  • Interesting story

This book takes place during Napoleon’s conquest of Europe. It follows Nicole and her conquest to make the best champagne. Not only does she have to contend with her husband’s melancholy, a rival’s jealousy but also trying to get her champagne to market. It was an interesting story, Nicole is a strong woman . She has some characters who at times help but also seem to follow their own agenda. I enjoyed the story, learned a few things about champagne along the way. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy

Wonderful story set in a very difficult time in history ~ rather heart wrenching but very touching.

  • A woman’s lot in the 17-1800’s.

The story of Nicole Clicquot maker of the now famous champagne Vervue Clicquot. Widowed at an early age, her drive and determination to achieve her late husband’s dream of making the finest champagne was met at every turn by acts of treachery and chauvinism. Set in the backdrop of the Napoleonic wars and its hardships, the story gives many insight into life at the time.
