Awesome story, actually gave me the shivers down my spine at times.

So sad that there are really people like this in the world who can be controlled by evil. Weak in spirit. And happy to be part of some thing even if it is terribly wrong. Great read, nice to know it is fiction. I hope!

Part ghost story, part crime thriller. Failing at both.

The book is an easy read so if you're looking for some pabulum in the shape of a ghost story or a murder thriller then you may be happy. Spoilers: It's not a whodunit as that is clear in the story. It's also not scary at all as a ghost story and the haunted house is insufficiently built up to be scary. The crime storyline is weak and unbelievable and portrays the police in a poor light (if you are going to search a house for a missing person, would you not search the cellar simply because the door was locked?). And the most incredulous plot line was that a police officer discovers the identity of Jack the Ripper and location of evidence, and does nothing. In fact she doesn't even seem surprised. Perhaps because she's making love to a colleague in cliché style. Why the author chose to make the ghost that infamous character escapes me seeing as she didn't make much use of it. He could have been just a serial killer. A book I read to the end but not one I recommend not inspiring me to read another from the author.
