  • Great read about contemporary India

I quite enjoyed this story of an Indian man who leaves his village for a medical residency at Parkview Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Anil Patel is the eldest son of the headman of farming community whose father has encouraged him to be a doctor, so he has worked hard to fulfill his parents' ambitions. The novel explores the clash of cultures that Anil experiences and the changes he goes through trying to fit in both Indian and American life. The characterizations are rich and full, and the story of Anil and his Indian roommates is engaging. It's a good read.

  • The golden son

So many pressures on these children. So little thought given to what others may have gone through. Too much what others will think. Very good and thought provoking.

  • Interesting

Very good read, with great overlaps in countries and culture, both oceans apart. I'd recommend it
