  • Plenty of twists and turns as well as subterfuge

I like to read crime fiction that has a story that is more complicated than what appears on the surface. The Guilty Dead was exactly what I gravitate towards because for what seemed like an open and shut case there were many leads that kept uncovering more twists to the case. The opening of the story had me questioning what the motive was for what had taken place, which was a grim situation indeed. Then, fast forward, I am reading about the aftermath of the opening and there was a most likely scenario that occurred but there was also reasonable doubt that maybe the situation was not what it first appeared to be. It was a lovely opening to a suspenseful thriller that kept me guessing at each turn. While Magozzi and his partner follow the clues that seem to be leading to ever changing conclusions, the gang over at Monkeewrench were working on an entirely different endeavor but one that lent an added layer of suspense to the story. They had been developing a computer program which would cut down on the leg work for finding potential threats to both local and national security. While running a beta test the program uncovered some rather startling results that brought the danger way too close to home for these characters. Yes, a very nail-biting story indeed! I was fully engaged with this story right from the start! I loved that there were two plots running in this story and that I was constantly guessing what was truly happening with both of them. In addition to the crime and suspense, there were also some tender moments in this story that made the characters very pleasing to me. The characters themselves were nicely developed and all of them added interest to the story. The Guilty Dead was a stimulating read that had plenty of twists and turns as well as subterfuge and surprises. It was a fast paced read that I definitely recommend to fans of crime fiction. This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

  • Team UP

KIND OF A LOT GOING ON HERE!! We have a murder, a romance, a new baby, revenge, two police partners, another murder, a GEEK MONKEEWRENCH Intelligent Company and even more murders. Oh yeah and a BOMB! This is my first read in this series and now I need to make time to read the prior eight. Great characters by this author along with a thickening plot! "A copy of this book was provided by Crooked Lane Books via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

  • The Guilty Dead

I fell in love with the first Monkeewrench book years ago. Believe me, P. J. Tracy never disappoints. Looking forward to my next Monkeewrench read.
