  • Captivating and entertaining story!

The Highlander’s Defiant Captive is the fourth book in “The Lairds Most Likely” series by author Anna Campbell. I am a big fan of Ms. Campbell’s work and I’ve absolutely loved this series to date. Although this definitely could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the entire series! Callum Mackinnon is Laird of Achnasheen. He has chosen to take a new path and try to end the feud between his clan and the Drummonds. When the Drummond leader refuses Callum’s request to wed his daughter, Callum takes matters into his own hands. Mhairi Drummond is the only daughter of the Laird of Bruard. She’s a clever, brave and beautiful young woman. When Callum kidnaps her to force a marriage, she fights him all the way back to Achnasheen. I absolutely loved Callum! He’s handsome, intelligent and a respected leader, wanting what’s best for his people. When he decides to force his enemy’s daughter to marry him, he doesn’t expect someone as feisty and stubborn as Mhairi. She’s not at all what he expected, but he finds himself admiring her and wanting her for himself, not just for his plan. Mhairi was a fabulous heroine and I immediately liked her! She’s brave, proud and headstrong. She’s not about to let Callum force her into a marriage, but she’s intelligent enough to understand his reasons. I enjoyed watching these two sworn enemies get to know one another and to see their feelings start to change! Anna Campbell did an amazing job with Callum & Mhairi’s story! Fabulous characters, feuding clans, and Anna’s trademark witty dialogue throughout, and you end up with a captivating and entertaining story with a perfect ending! I loved it and look forward to what Ms. Campbell has for us next!

  • A great, 4.5-star highland romance

Wow! What an emotionally gripping 4.5-star tale of two “foes.” Once again, Anna Campbell delivers a thoroughly enchanting highland romance. Callum MacKinnon is Laird of his clan. He is tired of the bloodshed that goes on between his clan and the Drummond clan. He decides the easiest way to end the long-standing blood feud is to marry the daughter of the Drummond laird. When turned down by the Drummond laird, Callum successfully kidnaps the beautiful but feisty Mhairi Drummond. She fights him and refuses to wed him even after they return to his clan. Mhari was spoiled greatly by her father and thus was able to be very independent in her actions. She is very proud and resists falling for Callum who is willing to accept her as she is, though he will not waiver from his wish to make her his lady. He feels he has proved to her he was willing to put himself to the test for her sake. When Mhari’s cousin comes to try and negotiate her release from Callum, she finds out her father arranged for her to marry her cousin years ago. She is angered that she was never told. Growing up she was very independent but realizes it was an illusion. For women, men are the ones who have the right to decide their fate. Mhari puts her trust in the wrong person in her attempted escape from the clan and is saved from death by Callum. She realizes how much he really loves her and realizes too that she has come to care for him. She sees how much his people love and respect him and she agrees to marry him, and finally, sets aside her pride, and admits she loves him. I thoroughly liked Highlander’s Defiant Captive. It is a captivating romance with a feisty heroine, a braw and handsome laird, and of course, takes place in the beautiful, soul-lifting highlands.

  • the fine line between love and hate

Caught up in a feud, not of his own making, Callum Mackinnon takes matters into his own hands when his overtures for peace to the Drummond Laird fail. It seems that the only way to resolve decades of unresolved issues is to kidnap the fair Drummond maiden, Mhairi. Callum does not take into account that Mhairi is every bit as stubborn and difficult as her father and when she finds that she is central to Mackinnon's plan, she makes things as difficult as possible for him. However, as many before her and after too have found, the line between love and hate is very finely drawn. This book is fast-paced, adventurous and romantic and kept me revetted to the pages throughout. The book is also well written and comes to a heart-warming conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
