  • Mystery

The Housewarming by S.E. Lynes Your little girl went missing You looked high and low Your neighbors looked, too Your daughter is gone You need closure But, a year later Everyone says to move on And yet you can’t give up without answers… …no matter what Slow to start and still moving slowly over halfway in I admit I skimmed a fair bit till the story picked up. I had trouble relating to the characters and am not sure why. I would hate to have been Ava carrying the guilt of a year without her daughter and feeling she was in some way responsible. I felt sorry for both Ava and her husband, Matt, for having lost their daughter. I did find there was a great deal of repetition in those early pages but perhaps it served the purpose to lay the foundation of just how numbing and depleting the search for a child gone missing can be. I could understand why Ava would not be thrilled to go to a neighborhood party while still wondering what had happened to her daughter but go she did and that began the beginning of the unraveling of the mystery of what happened and where little Abi might be. This story dealt with love, loss, lies, family, friendship and more. I don’t want to give anything away so will leave it there. Did I enjoy this book? Sort of though it is dark and during a pandemic dark is not easy to read Would I read more by this author? I believe I would Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars

  • A Great Read

Wow. This book is really a physiological thriller you can’t put down. It starts with the nightmare scenario, every parents dread, a child disappears. The way each character behaves and the descriptive way you are drawn into their pain is breathtaking. However if you think this book is just raw emotion you will be surprised. After almost a year the parents attend their neighbours housewarming party. What happens there changes everything.....

  • A heartbreaking story

Oh S.E. Lynes, once again you have me crying over one of your books. I was a blubbering mess after I finished reading this one and I just felt so heartbroken. When an author makes me feel these emotions and share the experiences as their characters do through their storytelling, it makes me hold them in the highest regard. Whatever S.E. Lynes writes turns to gold and The Housewarming is no exception. She has crafted an emotional tale of two parents guilt, grief and heartbreak, which is all interwoven in a mystery to solve as to what really happened the day their child disappeared. When the truth is revealed, it will leave you all shook up, so make sure you have the tissues on hand! Once again S.E. Lynes has created a lead character that just pulled on my heartstrings. Ava is just so broken and has barely existed in the last year since her daughter’s disappearance. Each tear that she shed, I shed and after a throwaway comment at a housewarming party at her neighbours, suggests that some of them know more about that day than they have let, on including her husband, leads Ava on a quest in search of the truth. S.E. Lynes writing is just breathtaking throughout this book and she really has put her heart and soul into it. I devoured each page and was gripped from start to finished. S.E. Lynes knows how to get her readers attention and she does a great job of making you feel part of the story. I felt like I was by Ava’s side helping her along, as I was also desperate to know what really happened on that tragic day. All up The Housewarming is an emotional story that will have you unable to tear yourself away from. It has been very well plotted, executed and has very well developed characters. The tension and suspense that is built up throughout keeps you flicking those pages and will have you still thinking about the book long after you have finished it. Congratulations on another outstanding book S.E. Lynes! It was an absolute pleasure to read and review The Housewarming which I highly recommend.

  • Pages turn quickly

How life can change in a flash. This happens to Ava and Matt when Ava leaves the front door open , her daughter in the stroller at the door and in ten minutes tops Abi is gone. You are slowly but surely drawn into the lives of Matt ,Ava and the neighbours as police frantically search for Abi. Ava overhears what seems an innocent remark on her first time out at a housewarming party. Something is not adding up to what both her Matt believed happened. Who to believe, who to trust? How can Ava make sense of any of this? The pages turn quickly as you race to the conclusion of story. This book will stay with me for quite awhile. Take time to read the author's notes, food for thought. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a heart wrenching yet satisfying read.

  • Took My Breath Away!

There are almost no words to describe all the emotions felt while reading S.E. Lynes latest, The Housewarming. I am blown away by the author's ability to keenly describe truly awful and raw emotions. This is a story with so many entwined lives, marriages, friendships and all contained in one very nice neighborhood.. It is also about loss and how we navigate it. It is superbly done and you couldn't stop reading if you wanted to. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
