  • Tense Crime Thriller

The Killer's Girl is the second book in the Detective Morgan Brooks series. Having not read the first book, I found this an easy book to pick up and enjoy. There were some references to her prior experiences but this did not detract from this story. The characters are well written and the clues laid out to the observant followers. So, a crime thriller which weaves good investigation and the protagonists' personal backgrounds. The tension is built up nicely and brought to its inevitable climax. Highly recommended with a four-star rating.

  • Quick, engrossing read

A quick, fantastic page turner. I figured out the killer about half way through but that didn't stop me from being engrossed in the story. Morgan is a likable cop and you root for her throughout. Another great murder mystery by Helen Phifer. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC

  • Is Morgan guilty?

Setting is the Lake District. It is the 2nd book in the series but can easily be a standalone. Gabrielle Stevens is found murdered in her bed. DNA is found from Gary Marks who has been in Strangeways Prison for over 20 years. Another close match fo DC Morgan Brooks is also found. We get more information about Morgan's past and family. Is Morgan personally connected to this case? I found the characters to be well-developed. The plot was suspenseful and kept the pages turning with lots of twists and turns. I thought I knew the killer mid-way but the author surprised me in the end. I am anxiously waiting for the next installment and I would highly recommend this series for those who love mystery-thrillers. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for a free copy for an honest review.

  • Another 5-Star

This book was given to me an exchange for an honest review by NetGalley. I may have found my new favorite series! This is the 2nd in the Morgan Brookes series. I was so excited to read this because I liked the first book so much, and I was not disappointed. In fact, I may have liked this one better!. Morgan Brookes is new to the detective division and is called to a murder scene of a young woman, found in her bedroom. She promises the victim's mother that she will find the killer, but the killer finds her first. There is a lot of Morgan's past that is brought to light, that she didn't even know. I love Declan, the pathologist. He takes care of the victims, is so gentle and remembers that they were people before their horrific deaths. Morgan is a strong, bold and stubborn woman, Ben her boss is always trying to watch out for her, and Amy her colleague speaks her mind. I love all the characters in this story. Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Helen Phifer! Can't wait for #3!
