  • Simply Superb!

John Webster, accused of stalking, requires the services of barrister, Ingrid Lewis. After Ingrid successfully defends Webster, he then turns his attention on her following and harassing her, and uploading videos designed to damage her reputation. One day, one of her colleagues, Belinda Grey is involved in a road traffic accident and dies. Ingrid is certain that she was meant to die, not Belinda... This is an amazing and riveting psychological thriller with some fantastic characterisation. My third book by Jane Casey (I've read a couple of books from her brilliant Maeve Kerrigan series) completely blew me away. The author certainly has a talent for blindsiding twists and deviously complex characters. In a multilayered story that shifts from the past to the present, Ingrid is beset by paranoia as Jane Casey expertly weaves her magic and the reader is treated to a wonderfully oppressive, fast-paced thriller. The horror of Ingrid's life falling apart is depicted in detail and I was hooked from the opening chapter. With intelligent, well-drawn characters that mesmerised, I recommend The Killing Kind very highly. A special thank you to HarperCollins, Jane Casey, NetGalley and Pigeonhole for a complimentary copy of this novel at my request. This review is my unbiased opinion.

  • A chilling read

The Killing Kind, brought to you by best selling author Jane Casey, is a standalone crime thriller and a spectacular read. Dark, intense and twisty as they come, this is one read that you do not want to miss out on! The pages just turn themselves, there is a sinister vibe throughout, its creepiness is off the chart and every noise I heard around me, had me on edge and looking over my shoulder. More than once I had to check that all my doors and windows were locked! My two golden retrievers were of no use in keeping guard and with each gasp I uttered, just resulted in a look and a huff as I interrupted their sleep. Thanks very much girls! Ingrid I found to be a really great character. She has been well developed and I found myself invested in her. Not one to easily trust and permanently with her guard up, I could relate to her. Although John Webster provided many of my freaked out moments and is as chilling as they come, he has been masterfully written in his role. Whilst this is only the first book I have read from Jane Casey, I can see her fast becoming a favourite author of mine. I had an immediate connection to her writing, which is flawless, and it just commanded my attention and had me under its spell. I look forward to reading more from her. The Killing Kind is transfixing and will take over and consume you. Just a heads up though, before you start make sure you have nothing else to do as you won’t be able to put it down. Based on that, as well as its other strengths, this is what I class as a perfect read.

  • So worth the wait . . .

I've devoured every book by Jane Casey over the years and waiting for her latest creation was a big deal. As I hoped, she didn't disappoint! Ms Casey draws you in from the first page and keeps you there, unable to escape until the very end ( 3am in my case! ) As usual, I raced through The Killing Kind because I couldn't put it down. Finishing a really good book is like a bereavement, but reading it a second time brings a different kind of peace - I'm now on page 127!

  • Absolutely gripping

Ooooo, this is good! Jane Casey is one of my favourite authors and I love her Maeve Kerrigan series, so when I saw this, I couldn't click fast enough and I was not disappointed; this is a standalone but every bit as good. This is absolutely gripping from start to finish; full of so much tension and a general creepiness that gets right in your head. The characters are excellent and John Webster is a brilliant "baddie". This is one of those books when you think you've nailed it and then it kicks you in the teeth and you have to start guessing all over again ... I love it!! Totally recommended to lovers of this genre. Thank you to HarperCollinsUK/HarperFiction and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

  • Good title

An exciting fast paced thriller with a good cast of characters you don't know which to trust! A cat & mouse mystery which does get complicated so the writer makes you work hard to sort it all out. Would make a good tv series. Recommended.
