  • Excellent historical fiction

Beautifully written, rich in historical detail and keen characterization make for an excellent historical fiction novel set in the early 17th century. The author writes about her ancestor, Lucy St. John, who lived through challenging political times and was the lady of the Tower of London when her husband's duty was to guard famous and infamous prisoners.

  • so appropriate.

what an eye opener this book is to the corruption of the English court at the time of James the first and his son Charles the first. this is first hand knowledge from a descendant of hers. It shows how the wealthy got their high positions and lost them since they had no qualifications to do their job. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

  • For me just alright.

It was alright, I myself found it a bit slow. It is a good filler read, I myself wished it was more interesting.

  • The lady of the Tower

The plot dragged in places and was very typical of women’s writing in that era of women’s history. I don’t think I could endure any sequels that were written after this one.

  • Step back in time

I love historical novels and this one keeps the pages turning! Can't wait to read more by this author - I come from the county where St John has always had a connection.
