    The Lancashire Witches

In the early days o publishing writers were paid by the word. But this is actually 3 books telling te story about this family who were cursed by a pastor who had been sentenced to death due to King Henry 8th hatred and ultimate dismantling of the Roman church in England......but that is another story, the pastor had refused to baptise a baby that had been born to a woman of the parish who was deemed to be a witch, in league with the devil. From that backgound, the story begins 200 years later when the baby is now a full fledged witch and has turned several other people into the devil's servants making good her agreement with the devil, then she, along with her kin attempts to turn a fellow witch's daughter who as it turns out is too pure and pious for the spells to work....it is well written; this series has been used as a reference in many other stories of witches very penny dreadfulish!
