  • Grossly Underrated

In truth, I'm only writing this review because I saw this book was only rated a single star based on one review. In fact, I just finished creating an account to write this review. It's been several years since I've read this book now but its left a lingering presence in my life. For what it is, it's a very mature read - that is, the topics it grapples with (depression, loss of a loved one, etc) are mature - but it handles itself in an equally mature way while never losing the childlike perspective of its narrator. Speaking of perspective, the books many chapters are broken down into different and interesting styles. Sometimes it's blunt with the protagonist telling you the sad reality of how he's feeling and other times a chapter will be delivered under the guise of a Star Trekesque romp. I'm not entirely sure how well of a job I'm doing at conveying to you the elements of this book, but it is something that needs to be experienced. I'm 18 now and haven't read it in a few years like I mentioned so I can't say how well it holds up for older readers but, if you're a kid or you have a son or a daughter, niece or a nephew, grandson or granddaughter around the age of 12 I couldn't recommend this book more. 5 Stars
