  • Don't miss this incredible boxset!!

Caught in Us is a beautifully inspiring and utterly ravishing journey of allowing the light of hope and love to not only surround but penetrate the broken and hurting hearts of those that are living in darkness. Even those who find themselves wandering in the fringes of the gray areas between light and dark can choose to have the sun warm their face once again. There is never a shortage of hope when love is allowed to break through the impenetrable barriers around your heart. Never turn away from the most precious things in life because they could easily be the very things that could save you. Dani would seem to have the perfect life with her rich family, good grades, and bright future, but how often are those who seem to have everything really have nothing when they take a closer look? She finds the one things she desperately longs for in the new boy at school. Until Damon came along, she never realized just how empty her life was without the simple and pure love that he offers her. Even with the demons that Damon wrestles with, Dani can see the good and beauty in him no matter how worthless he thinks he is. She breathes life and hope into his grieving and broken heart. No matter how much he knows he should stay away from her to keep from dragging her down, his heart won’t let him walk away. She comes to mean everything to him, and he won’t turn his back on her. Will these two lonely souls find a way to stay together in order to heal each other, or will their choice be taken away in the name of doing what’s best for them? I absolutely fell in love with Dani and Damon throughout their story. They found their completion in the other, and they cherished the precious bond that they were building day after day. It was so wonderful to see how Damon treated Dani with such a depth of love, respect, and kindness in every way possible. He made her laugh, built up her confidence, and made sure she knew that he really saw her. While he couldn’t look into her soul or read her mind, he could tell what she needed and he gave it to her. Dani knew without a doubt that Damon cared about her, cherished their friendship, and did his best to protect her from himself and others that might try to hurt her. They were such an amazing couple whose miraculous love literally took my breath away. Layla Hagen has a tremendously incredible talent of opening your heart to her wonderful characters from the very first word. You feel every written word as if it originated from the beating of your own heart. The pace of her story is so natural and beautifully fluid, and the storyline will remain with you long after the last word has been read. This is one author that is not to be missed. The soul that is found within these pages will touch you like nothing else can. I challenge you to walk away from her books and not feel the light, hear the passion, and experience a one-of-a-kind love.

My Rating: 4.5 Favorite Quotes: Lost In Us “I never believed Jess when she said that sometimes it’s worth being a b@ just because. Now I do. But I disagree with the last part. It’s not just because. Some people simply deserve it.” “I wish there was a way I could let him know how alive he makes me feel. How he turns the blood in my veins to liquid fire. How it burns so bright I am afraid it will turn me to ashes any second now.” Found In Us “There’s only one conclusion for you to reach: we might be onto something beautiful.” “I want you to be my everything, Jessica,” “I’ve never wanted to give a man everything before. Until now. I want to give him my heart, my soul, along with all of the things I never knew were mine to give away. I want the same from him too. I want it all.” “There’s no weapon more effective than words. They lash deep wounds that can cripple in a second and heal excruciatingly slow, sometimes not at all. Because words can’t be unheard. Or forgotten.” Caught In Us “Beatrix and Anthony Cohen used to love each other passionately… Somewhere along the years, their love burned to bitter ashes.” “A word of advice. Start working on your personality, you have a lot of catching up to do. Your ass and boobs aren’t as good as you think.” “I’m walking trouble. You should stay away from me. It’s catchy.” “It’d be a shame to graduate high school with the good girl stamp on our foreheads. Every girl worth her salt must break some rules. The best rules are broken with bad boys.” “The way to a man’s heart is through his nose. First take his breath away, then steal his heart.” “That was a swoon worthy love declaration… If you haven’t told all of this to Dani, I will chase you with a gun.” “You’d better prepare yourself to be surrounded by so much estrogen, you might grow boobs.” My Review: Layla Hagen has been a recent discovery for me – smacks head – I know! I found her work to be smokin’ hot, smartly written, moving, and entertaining. I am now a convert to her cult and hope to make my way through her entire listing. Ms. Hagen’s writing is emotional and compelling. While I am not a fan of angst, the way she writes - I didn’t mind it so much. I binge read the first two books at once and lapped them up like a dehydrated camel, all 546 pages, and like a thirsty camel, I wished for more. Caught In Us was a fun read and far less angsty than the first two books. While there were still periods of conflict and heartbreak, the overall feel was a sweet love story that began in high school and renews itself during college. All three books could be read as a stand-alone, which I totally appreciate, although I also enjoyed additional glimpses of the characters from previous books in the subsequent installments. Layla Hagen’s writing is always entertaining, engaging, thoughtful, and delightfully steamy. And who doesn’t enjoy a good girl/bad boy story? Each book was sensual, addictive, and beguiling. I seem to have a hard time putting my kindle down when reading her work.

  • Addicting

Book 1. I still need to read. Book 2. This book tells the story of Jessica and Parker, two people who think they are too damaged to deserve love. Parker had previously defended Jessica in a bar incident, which resulted in her having a broken leg. During her healing, Parker helped care for her and they grew close, but never gave in to the sexual desire they felt. Parker returned to London to save his family's company, and Jessica lands her after-college dream job working for a museum. Through a little plotting by Jessica's roommate, Dani, they are thrown back together and the sexual tension resurfaces. The rest of the book shows them breaking down each other's defenses to allow the other in to their hearts. What I like most about the book is how it captures the feeling of being in your mid-twenties and struggling with leaving the party life of college behind and becoming a responsible adult. I think many who attended university will relate to that struggle. In relationships, it's also a tumultuous time, when you meet someone and you want to be engulfed by them. Falling in love in your twenties is fast, sexually fueled, and confusing. The author captures this quite well in both Jessica and Parker. The conflicts in the book are mostly internal, with a minor incident at the end that gives a little more insight to everything Parker is trying to conceal. It was really nice that it was not a book where the couple breaks up and gets back together constantly, because while that does happen in real life, it doesn't happen to every relationship. It's possible to stay together and move past your issues without breaking up after every fight. I didn't have a hard time getting through the book, it was a relatively quick and easy read. The sex scenes were lively and nicely detailed. The ability to relate to the characters keeps you going through the story to see that they have a chance at happily ever after. If you are looking for something that isn't too complicated or overwrought with conflict, this is the book for you. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It's not necessary to read Lost in Us to read this one. Book 3. I really enjoyed this story. It took me back to my highschool years, falling in love. The author really captures the feelings of first love and you will find yourself feeling the emotions right along with the characters. I love Dani and Damon's story. Once you start reading, you won't want to stop. Dani has her heart set on heading to Oxford to escape her family after high school. She doesn't plan on falling for the new guy. Damon seems arrogant at first, but when you learn his story, you realize he's got a heart of gold. You'll be cheering for the couple to survive. There is some drama to the story, but it was also full of fun and laughter. I don't want to give anything away with spoilers. The story flows well. The dialog all feels natural. The characters are compelling and easy to relate to. I highly recommend reading this author. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you don't need to. This story stands alone quite well. It is nice to see the characters from the previous novels appear, but because of when this takes place, you could read this book first. I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
