  • Fun!

Oh, I had a lot of fun with this book! I jumped at the opportunity to read this book because the description sounded like something I would really enjoy. I have read a couple of books written by Angie Fox and knew that I like her style of writing so I felt like this book would be a good bet. It was so easy to slip into this book's world and I couldn't wait to see how things would work out. Petra is a physician working in a MASH unit that is in place to treat injuries in the neverending war between the gods. She has been drafted to serve for the rest of her life or until either the war ends (which it probably won't). Everyone thinks that she is just a regular mortal but she has one little secret, she can see the dead. She saves the life of a demigod on her table who learns her secret and her life suddenly changes. I really liked the characters in this book. Petra was a strong woman who worked really hard to do whatever good she could in the world. Galen was awesome. He seemed to take everything in stride but was always there ready to save the day when he was needed. Rodger just wanted to be able to be back with his family but was a good friend to Petra. Petra was not eager to jump into a relationship with Galen so it was fun to see how things ended up developing between the pair. I think that this book was very well written. I really liked the fact that there was a good dose of humor sprinkled throughout the book. I loved the banter between the characters and thought that it added to the appeal of the story. There was a great balance of excitement, romance, and humor throughout the book and the pacing was very well done. This was a book that was very easy to read for hours at a time. I would recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a fun story that kicks off a promising series that I look forward to reading more of in the near future. I received a digital review copy of this book from Moose Island Books via NetGalley.

  • Awesome Concept. You won’t want to put it down

This is such a fantastic story. I read the original (Immortally Yours) about 8ish yrs ago. Angie Fox, the author, decided to re-write it as apparently she wasn’t totally happy with the original. I’ve got to say I absolutely loved the original story & this re-write makes it even better. This is A Must Read! It has a really great fresh concept with Immortal Ancient Gods squabbling & at War with each other, causing tornadoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods etc. Leaving the humans & paranormals to suffer the consequences. A MASH unit for the God’s Army has been set up in Limbo to help patch up the injured Gods. The Surgeons & other workers have all been conscripted for life with no chance of any R&R or ever seeing their families back on earth again. Then there are the Oracles, the prophecy, the secret, the girl (Dr Petra), the Demi God (Galen), the romance, the Werewolf, the Vampire, the humour...... Oh & Not forgetting To Visit the Good Father (lol)....

  • Four and a half

Four and a half This was a fabulous start to a new series and honestly I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. Does anyone remember the tv show Mash from the 70's because this has exactly that feel. Medics working flat out to put soldiers back together knowing that they are only going to get hurt again. Banter, practical jokes and general sticking your nose where it doesn't belong because everyone is teetering on the brink, exhausted and trying to stay sane. That my fellow reader is the end of the similarities because this war is fought between the Old Gods and the New Gods with Demi Gods and Mortals conscripted. The Mash unit of the New Gods is in Limbo and that's where we meet Petra a human doctor trying to just keep going. Petra has a deadly secret though because she can see the dead and its absolutely imperative that no one realises because thanks to an ancient prophecy it would mean she would be put to death ! So what can she do when not only does she literally push someone's soul back into their body but when he wakes the stubborn Commander just won't leave her alone ? I really enjoyed this and that's probably because it's completely different to anything else I've read. Perhaps not laugh out loud funny but manic and compulsive reading. The romance didn't really fit very well for me but I'm invested enough to want Petra and Galen to get a happy ending. I particularly enjoyed the second half as things became much clearer and the supporting characters felt more fleshed out. I feel this could definitely entertain those who enjoy paranormal stories with a twist of humour and I look forward to reading more about Petra and her adventures. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

  • Another great series

This is a great series starter. I love the idea, it's different and interesting and has me excitedly waiting to see what happens next. There hasn't been a series by Angie Fox that I haven't truly enjoyed and it's looking like this series is going to be just as good.

  • Awsomely fun read!

I loved this book, and didn't want to put it down. It has all of Angie Fox's trademark humor in a new facinating setting of Limbo. Where the new and old gods are fighting and anyone can be drafted into their war. Prophesies are real, and so are demigods, imps, and carnivorous scorpions. The characters are all fantastic, Petra the doctor who doing her best not to have anyting to do with the prophesy, Galen the demigod who gives everyone back some hope. Jeffe the spinx who likes to tell riddles, Marcus the vampire who just wants to be left alone to brood, and the werewolf who is secretly raising little swamp dinosaur pets. I have only seen a few episdodes of MASH but this book definitely gives me the same vibes. All of the doctorss, nurses and everyone in the MASH encampment work hard, but they also get down time, where they spend time in the mess haul, eating horrible food, and finding new ways to play practicle jokes on each other. They do whatever that can to survive, especially since they know that no one is going home until the war ends. The warning in the synopsis is completly accurate, if you like danger, drama, practicle jokes, pet swamp lizards, brooding demigods, adventure and romance definitely check out this book!
