    The mother

Well written, easy to read. A good story. I enjoyed it. Informative on what life was like in China at the turn of the 20th century.

    The Mother

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would highly recommend this book. It is hard to believe how the people were so poor, but they were also happy. The author definitely picked the best name for the novel!!

    A story about not much

This is a story of a woman in a tiny impoverished village in rural china. Nothing much hapoens to her, at least nothing extraordinary and yet her story is engaging. Buck writes gentle and flowing prose which gives life to the inner narrative of our protagonist. Simple, but effective.
