  • Good story but long winded in places.

The fact that this book is based on a true story made it intriguing . It is well written but at times becomes a little long winded. I got a bit bored in places but over all I enjoyed it. The ending was slightly disappointing.

  • The Murder of Harriet Monckton

Plodding, anachronistic, dreadful. Zero character development. No sense of era-matched dialogue. Would have been more interesting to read the original court documents. No sense of culture, time, place or gender politics. Pitched as a story about a serial abuser, she's tried to turn this into a bodice ripper. Terribly disappointed this was recommended after reading the greats - e.g. Barbara Pym and Elizabeth Taylor. Guess I'll have to do my own research from now on.
