  • A captivating story with depth and charm

A captivating story with depth and charm. The plot and characters are wonderfully developed - I'll be looking for more Rachel Joyce even though I don't usually go for 'romance'

  • A feel good story

A gentle and uplifting story well told with real insight into human feelings. Unreservedly recommended as is 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry' also by this author.

  • Fabulous enough to forgive the violin errors

This dramatic novel was another triumph from Rachel Joyce, who has become one of my favourite authors. I loved the imagery, and the way she dropped gentle humour unexpectedly into the most poignant scenes. For such a well researched book, it's tragic that the descriptions of playing the violin were so badly wrong. Please bring out another edition with this corrected. There are no "struts" on a violin (were you thinking of frets on a guitar?) and you would never pick up a violin by the scroll. It was also rather unbelievable that you'd find an old violin which was in tune and ready to play, especially if the bow was missing some of its horsehair. I really hope you can fix this. Otherwise a perfect book, which will remain in my heart for a long time. (PS I am a violinist and former violin teacher).

    Thanks for your feedback!
