    Review 1

Great read - lots of parallel threads to retain so causing a lot of backtracking from time to time - keeps the brain going though. Now finished the second reading so here goes:1. Shame the white plane at Fulton didn’t feature in the later chapters - would be interesting to see how it fared against the basilisks. 2. I would have thought that Bob Howard would have been pulling strings somewhere but it’s good that Alex stands up. 3. Amazing how the workings of government and civil service have still managed to characterise the make-do and mend approach which still provides a nail-biting ending. 4. CS has a wonderfully creative approach and this one of the best - wasn’t sure how he would go on when Dr Angleton did his Custer’s Last Stand bit in the last book. 5. Loved it all especially setting in Leeds but shame too far away for the army’s tanks to get involved 6. Finally, hope Pinky recovers.

    Great

Really enjoyed this latest in the laundry files. Took the series in an unexpected direction. The feel of the characters was great.

    Not a nightmare read !

Another Stross success. New characters come to the fore with a mixture of elves, a love story, vampires and a WW2 halftrack mixing it up with dragons, other dimensional monsters and RAF jet fighters

Pretty good. A return to form.

I have read the laundry files since the beginning. The last one with the supers was not to my taste as part of the laundry universe. This one for me is a return to form for the series. New main characters, so a good jumping on point for new readers, an excellent premise and a surprisingly thoughtful ending. Desperate to find out what happens next.
