A nice introduction but not much more

This is not really a history book. The author avoids too many dates, names, and numbers, preferring to tell stories about knights instead. It's not a bad thing in itself. It means that the readers get an easy introduction to this part of the medieval history, but if they want to know more, they should take notes and check everything in other sources. I also like the fact that Lars Brownworth writes so much about Sicily, Southern Italy, and crusades. Usually books about Normans are horribly Anglo-centric.

    Fascinating read.

A must for history buffs. Sets out how the Northmen affected and helped shape the modern western world. Looking forward to reading other works by the author.

    Worth it

A short history of the Normans and their affect on France, England, Germany, Italy and Sicily. Very interesting.
