  • Delightful

I do love it when I get so immersed in a book I find myself thinking about it all day, looking forward to getting in to bed at night, picking it up and reading on. I could hear, smell and feel Africa while the characters made me laugh and cry. Truly delightful and, as is the way with all good books, I'm sad that I've finished it.

  • Brilliant

This book took me through a series of emotional journeys. At first it made me angry, not at the plot or characters but at the author. And then, ... Just read it!!

  • A really good read

I'm not much of a writer and it is a while since I have read this, but I thoroughly enjoyed. Beautifully crafted and well worth reading.

  • Wonderful

Barbara is a skilful writer. Her knowledge of Africa and their culture phenomenal. Love the way she unearths the politics and challenges and exposes past and present colonial exploitation and destruction.

  • A good read

A fascinating insight into conditions in the Belgian Congo in the 1960's. Life and the meaning of existence/comng of age. Very readable.
