He saved his best till last

From the really convincing slightly unreliable narrator to the brilliant use of dialogue, this book shines. Banks has had the courage to craft a painfully sad and funny narrative out of his own terminal illness - the result is a novel from a writer going down in a blaze of glory.

    The Quarry

Literally just finished the Quarry and thoroughly enjoyed it. You nailed it again Iain. So saddened that this is goodbye.

I feel as if i've just read someone's diary.

Banks does a brilliant job once more. Taking you into a situation none of us would want to be in even as our best selves and explores the realms of life, dying and dealing with asperger's. A touching and revealing story.

    Not one of his best

I am a big fan of banks both wih and wihout the "m" but this is one of his weaker books. It lacks direction and i strugle to really like the characters. Fizzles out
