  • Ancient Egyptian gods and magic!

Carter and Sadie are siblings that only see each other twice a year since their mother’s death. Their father drags them to the British Museum and everything changes. Magic, ancient Egyptian gods, siblings learning to trust each other, danger, friendship, mayhem, a touch of romance, and the main characters being hunted for trying to do the right thing. Fun! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each time I read it, I find something new to marvel over. The worldbuilding, plot, characters and mythology used is brilliant. Trigger warning: some people don’t like mixed couples or mixed-race children, so the Kane family will bother them to no end. There’s also the death of parents to deal with. And the five gods going from siblings to spouses/offspring can be a little yuck and confusing. Not middle-grade but not young adult either. Though, I think this might be higher middle-grade (ten and up). It is fast-paced and action packed. Totally worth 500 pages. Sadie and Carter learn to look deeper at situations, which is a lesson everyone should learn.
