    Unusually hilarious

Probably the funniest piece of serious? sci-fi I've ever read. Brilliant writing, wonderful lampooning of modern bureaucracy. If magic really existed, this is the kind of glorious ham-fisted mess Western military "intelligence " would make of it.

    D.O.D.O

A very satisfying read. Suspenseful and humorous, sometimes simultaneously. The story arc leaps lightly and believably through time and is coherent all the way through. Lots of historical detail for those who enjoy this. Lots of action in many time frames so using many modes of fighting. Some romance though mostly ssupresed and definitely not lurid. Complete enjoyment.

    Original et passionnant

Toujours aussi original et passionnant Neal S. Un peu laborieux dans le 1er tiers à mon goût, mais une fois l'intrigue installée, c'est parti !

Too Long and full of temporal flaws

As seems to be the case with many modern movies, this book feels far too long. This is because 80% of the plot development appears to happen in the last 20% of the book. This is related to my second gripe about DODO. The reason the opening of the book is so long is that the authors go to extraordinary lengths to explain why witches and time travel do not go together....only to largely ignore this premise later in the book to help the plot move along. There are some genuinely funny moments in this book, but wrapped in an inconsistent paced and patchy plot (and that's to say nothing of the one nasty paradox). I am a huge fan of Neal Stephenson and you can see his influence throughout the book, but not his finest hour.

Only good for lovers of conspiracy theories

It started out nice. Interesting language and choice of words... In the end it's a story about conspiracy.
