    Unusually hilarious

Probably the funniest piece of serious? sci-fi I've ever read. Brilliant writing, wonderful lampooning of modern bureaucracy. If magic really existed, this is the kind of glorious ham-fisted mess Western military "intelligence " would make of it.

Too Long and full of temporal flaws

As seems to be the case with many modern movies, this book feels far too long. This is because 80% of the plot development appears to happen in the last 20% of the book. This is related to my second gripe about DODO. The reason the opening of the book is so long is that the authors go to extraordinary lengths to explain why witches and time travel do not go together....only to largely ignore this premise later in the book to help the plot move along. There are some genuinely funny moments in this book, but wrapped in an inconsistent paced and patchy plot (and that's to say nothing of the one nasty paradox). I am a huge fan of Neal Stephenson and you can see his influence throughout the book, but not his finest hour.

Only good for lovers of conspiracy theories

It started out nice. Interesting language and choice of words... In the end it's a story about conspiracy.

    Original et passionnant

Toujours aussi original et passionnant Neal S. Un peu laborieux dans le 1er tiers à mon goût, mais une fois l'intrigue installée, c'est parti !

Could have been so much better

Started off well, but it felt to me as if it was trying to be too clever. Too many silly acronyms, not convincing re the 'romance' between Tristan and Mel (weirdest and slowest romance ever). I just found the whole thing messy which is a shame because the premise is quite fun.
