  • Great read

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Fleshes out the impact the Viking age has had on Europe and other parts of the world in a very readable style. Recommended to those interested in the development of the English and Russian nations in particular.

  • The Sea-Wolves

Very interesting book. I had always thought that I had a reasonable knowledge of the Vikings and of their accomplishments but as it turns out my knowledge was a small portion of their history. Well worth reading.

  • Rage

Not up to his usual standard, but still a good read.

  • Definitely worth the read!

A lifelong sailor myself, I found this popular history of the Vikings both informative and understanding. Previously, I had no idea how far they spread, both East and West, and their cultural impact on the world as we know it today. The author, Lars Brownworth, brings history to life and adds enough anecdotal humour and humanity to balance out the brutality of the times. Definitely worth the read!
