  • A woman's life

This beautifully written and researched story brought to life an historic episode previously unknown to me. The descriptions of Icelandic island life as well as its extreme opposite in an Algerian casbah, are both rendered with clarity and integrity, and the mind-boggling contortions Asta needs to make to adjust to both are delivered with sensitivity and insight.

  • Enjoyable

This is a enjoyable story of a harsh Icelandic life on a cold barren island in comparison with the warm life style in a moorish Algiers as a slave.
