  • Great story!

I really enjoyed the book. Ethan Jones makes the characters jump out of the page. They are so real. The plot is well-defined. You end up being totally engrossed in the story. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes mysteries and some romance.

  • Good Romantic Suspense

3.5 stars. The Secret Affair is the first book in the Jennifer Morgan series. This can be read as a standalone but it does end in a soft cliffhanger for the next book. There is some violence. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This is a romantic suspense novel that starts the story of Jennifer and James as well as Jennifer's business partner Amber. Jennifer and Amber are trying to get clients for their ad agency. A chance meeting brings them a new client and they get entangled in way more than they bargained for. As usual, not everything is as it seems. Even though the storyline is fairly predictable, I enjoyed the book. I hope that there will be future Jennifer Morgan books. I look forward to reading more of this series.

  • Good Tense Thriller Series Starter.

The Secret Affair is a romantic suspense thriller and it’s written by an author better known for his action thrillers. Does that mean it is not good then? No, it definitely doesn’t because it is very good. I’d say it’s not quite my usual type of book but I really try to not limit my reading choices. It’s a bit different from my usual books and I didn’t know what to expect. What I can say is I really enjoyed reading it and the author writes well with an easy flowing style that helps keep the pace of the book moving. He created characters that, at times, frustrated me with their actions and had me asking ‘why did they do that’. This is true in real life too and I thought it added to the story. It’s a book with some very unpleasant people, again like real life unfortunately, that see others as there to be used. The main character is likeable and I was hoping she’d get herself out of the situations she was forced into. Overall, a great effort from an author I love to read but the book, for me at least, is just lacking that final something to make it as great as the author’s other work.
