  • The Secret Life of James Cook

A gripping fictionalised account of Captain James Cook, one of the great heros of early British naval world exploration. It provides a highly personalised image of Cook against the backdrop of hardships and odds defying encounters through his first major world expedition and circumnavigation.

  • Cook's journey as envisaged narratively.

I enjoyed the fiction woven around real historical events, especially the journey around the world and the encounters and vicissitudes of crew and officers and botanists and gentry. Some additional narrative would have been welcome on how Cook's exploits were received in Britain and by the Admiralty. Mt Egmont discovery was out of synch timewise. Informative and good reading otherwise.
