Laboured, I'll give it one more book, if there is no improvement Reacher will be off my reading list.

  • Ok story

I found this Reacher story meandered in the middle of the book and I lost interest which I normally don’t in these books.

  • The Sentinal

His character now comes over as tough and I can bash/beat anyone. Earlier books he used his wits and experience

  • Literally big shoes to fill.

I really want the transition to new author to work. I've read all the Lee Child books more than once and knew this wouldn't be the same. I don't think it flowed as well. I'd read a paragraph and have to go back to see if I'd skimmed over something as I'd be a little lost. Maybe that's just me. There were a few things that didn't ring true. The 'lizard part of Reacher's brain was used too often, and I'm not sure it ever helped him identify that someone was ok before - it seemed vaguely wrong to me. Things like Reacher falling for the dirt in the eye trick just seem wrong. He's too good for that. Also he got over his phobia when he had to burrow through a narrow tunnel in another book? Conceivable he still had a problem but I remember him laughing and being so relieved he'd overcome that fear. I'm not sure the connection was there with another character. He wasn't working with one person but 3 or 4 really. I like the connections then the slight regret as he moved on to a new day. I'm hoping this works. I want it to work, but I hope the transition is more faithful to the character we've got to know. It might take a few books written with more collaboration, and of course this was written under Covid conditions. I think it was a good start. Part of the problem is we've got to know Reacher so very well.

    Thanks for your feedback!
