  • Fabulous book

A great book, well worth a read. Amazing insight into the tragic events of the Leningrad Siege. I believe there is a follow on to this story, The Betrayal.

  • Mr

This is wonderful book. It captures the siege of Leningrad so well you actually feel like your there omongst the starving people. Helen Dunmore writes with such clarity and emotion, she sweeps you along in a tide of exploration into the minds of poor starving people, the likes of which are required to stoop so low in order to survive.

  • Chilling

Chilling heart stopping bringing to light the realities of the lives and degradations of the Russian people in WW2. Hard to imagine how this all could happen, yet the author guides us step by step through the frozen besieged city and its people some struggling at the edge of survival, others already left frozen in cold of the streets and apartments.
