Long read that's easy to get lost in

I finally finished it, and I must admit that it was an absolutely mind bending experience. I even tried to follow along on a map I downloaded online to try and better understand the Arda and Middle-Earth landscape. This isn't a light read, and would likely require another twice over for me to get completely straight. Well worth the adventure if you are willing to struggle through it. I'm just amazed at how Tolkien created a world with such rich detail and even it's own language! I think he likely lived more inside his own mind than he did in the world we see before us.

    High fantasy at its highest.

The ultimate crash course in Tolkien lore and history. A bit daunting at first, but completely worth it once it starts connecting the dots.

    For Diehard Fans

While some parts of this book are a bit dry, like reading a hustory textbook, it provides great background to Tolkien's world. Religion and history related in the Silmrillion ggive great insight into the characters and politics of the later stories.

    Middle Earth History

This is good read for the fans of Tolkien's works. It is a long and sad history of the fall of the Elves, and the fall of Numenor. But it is still a good read, well written. I remain in awe of Tolkien's imagination and genius.

    Mythology at it's best.

The Silmarillion is a collection of some of the histories behind The Lord of the Rings. J.R.R. Tolkien didn't simply write a few books, he was creating an entire mythos. This is easily my favorite collection of Tolkien's works.
