  • Imaginative and authentically written

I have always been a great fan of H.G. Wells, with his wonderful imagination and direct style of writing. Would this sequel be a disappointment? Certainly not, it was great to read. Steven Baxter has done a great job of writing from perspective of a gentleman experimenter at the end of the 19th century, and whilst not quite managing the elegance of Wells, has certainly caught his style of writing and equalled his imaginative reach. Whereas Wells needed only 81 pages for his historic book, Baxter used over 400 times that. For most of the book that was no problem, it was enjoyable to keep on reading, the last section, which was of necessity rather more theoretical did get a bit long-winded in places. A final word to anyone reading The Time Ships who has only seen one of the films or (like me) not read the book for a long time; do read (or re-read) The Time Machine first. It is only short and you will get much more out of the sequel if you have read it recently.

  • A must for all time travel addicts

This is great book for all those interested in time travel. It is exceptional in the exploration of time both past and present and the consequences of travelling so. The book moves through various scenarios of future and past with our time traveller. The inhabitants of these different scenarios are well thought out and make you eager to learn more as the book jumps through well thought out and diverse stages. One of the best books I've read . I think I will travel back in time and give a copy of the book to myself so I could have enjoyed it earlier !

  • Fitting title

Enjoyed the scope of story and the language used. The two main characters are well chosen such that the reader is educated on the science behind the plot while at the same time holding ones attention with an exciting story line. Thoroughly enjoyed reading the book.

  • Truly Fantactic

This book follows on from the original in a way that I did not very expect possible. The original is a classic and this book could end up as a classic as well. Great follow on story with a well laid out plot that keeps getting better as you read. You can read this book without knowing anything about the original and you would still enjoy it ( but the first one is short and free, so you may as well). Do not be put off by the length of the book, it's a good read and I was sad to finish it. Still have that post-book feeling you get after a good book, and I am writing this review six months after I read it!!

An excellent continuation of HG Wells classic story of time travel would recommend it as a good read.
