i read this book bc it was on a list of must read books. I read right to the end trying tofigure out why this book was on a must read list. Feel like I missed something.

  • Exploration of mental illness

"The saying goes that for a wound caused by a dog-bite to heal you have to eat that same dog." Gross. I'm not exactly sure why this novel is titled The Vegetarian. She didn't want to eat anything, hoping to die. The whole thing was a bit dramatic, but it was enjoyable reading a novel set in Seoul.

  • Amazing language and imagery.

I'm not someone that appreciates poetry as anyone normally should but this book felt like the author chose the precise words to evoke what everyone has felt at times: A sense of living in a dream, of not being good enough, of let oneself fall into a pit, of following our inner desires... I love it but I think I am going to read it in Spanish again or maybe read it in English a bit more carefully as I'm sure I didn't get everything that I was supposed to be getting out of this book. I loved it.

    Thanks for your feedback!
