  • Just an Okay read

This book wasn't bad. I enjoyed the writing and the plot was interesting enough. There was suspense and the way the book is told, via Jess, Amy and Fiona's point of view was enjoyable. The author threw in another point of view from the past who is an unknown narrator...I really liked that. What I didn't like was the repetitiveness and the fact I figured out some things. It didn't take away all my enjoyment as I wanted to keep reading to find the why and if I was correct. There was a pretty big coincidence and you have to suspend belief a little bit, but if you can do that it is an okay read. And although the women in this story make many mistakes regarding love, friendship and a multitude of others...they still came off as very strong (if a bit naive), independent women who know what they want and go after it. I liked this book enough to give it three stars, which on my scale means it is a good book and I would read more by this author.

  • Just okay for me

The book starts with an exciting encounter with a mystery woman and the main character and then a brief phone call with her fiancé that begins the twisted storyline. That gut-wrenching feeling when you can't find someone or they don't reply to your messages or phone calls is evident when Amy wakes up the next morning, so I felt this book had promise and would be a good read. However, I had a hard time connecting to any characters in the book. There was enough suspense and twists to hold my interest for the most part, but I didn't feel that invested in the outcome or what would happen to the characters as I kept reading. I did like the main character's college-age daughter and her sleuthing abilities. The characters and their past made it difficult to believe the plot of the story, however. It felt contrived and a little too out there. The book's beginning was promising, but then the middle felt weighed down, and by the time I got to the end, I just wanted it to be done. This just wasn't my type of book, unfortunately. #TakeTheVow #NetGalley

  • A compelling read

In a market where we are spoiled for choice with these types of thrillers, I have to admit that I did go into this book with some trepidation. I had nothing to worry about though and Debbie Howells has delivered a read that has just reinforced my love for this genre. Her spin on it is an interesting one with differences to most reads and this is what made it stand out above the rest for me. The Vow has been very well plotted, structured and executed. There is a tiny hiccup in that the first part of the book moves full steam ahead, but then does lose some momentum a bit after that. But, it is the strength of the story that had me wanting to keep flicking the pages and Debbie Howells does regain her mojo and was able to bring the story back on track to end with a satisfying finale. I enjoyed the ease of Debbie Howells writing style which makes for a very smooth read. Her characters are very well developed and have been expertly created and written and this is what brings them to life through the pages so vividly. The use of an unreliable narrator is always favourable and makes the story all the more exciting and enjoyable. The Vow is one of those books that just demands you attention. It is enthralling, captivating, compelling and one that will have you reading well into the night. Debbie Howell is a new author for me and one that I would now be interested to read more from in this genre. It was a pleasure to read and review The Vow which I recommend.

  • Fantastic Read

What a story kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through, what you learn is you can’t trust anyone when you think you have a perfect life then it’s all pulled from under you, the thought of your husband going missing just before your wedding is tragic then to find out so many things you never knew about is a nightmare and nothing is as it seems really good read can’t wait to read more of this author and want to thank Netgalley and Avon Books the opportunity to read The Vow definitely recommend it.

  • How far would you go to get revenge ?

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. Amy and Matt are due to be married in a couple of weeks but he has mysteriously disappeared. Added to this he has been leading a secret double life. However, some people are not who they say they are and another long buried secret jeopardises their freedom. This is a story about secrets, relationships, revenge and loyalty. Amy’s daughter Jess sets out to discover the truth but will the police believe her ? This book had me hooked from beginning to end and I can’t wait to read more from Debbie Howells.
