  • How Europe tired of peace.

This very readable history throws new light on the old questions about the causes of WWI. MacMillan asks, why did the peace fail? The answer seemed to be that a dangerous complacency had set in among the great powers who had solved (they thought) the various crises of the preceding nine years. This led them to believe that the crisis of 1914 could also be solved at the last minute.

    Thanks for your feedback!
