    Cleverly written steam punk

A clockwork octopus, an exiled Japanese noble, a young physicist investigating the ether and a young man unwittingly drawn into a Scotland Yard bombing by Irish nationalists, all contribute to the plot of this steam punk Victorian 'who done it'. Marvellously drawn characters, loving portraits of a London long gone, sexual politics in Victorian England and modernising Japan make this a very enjoyable read.

    Great first novel

Fantastic (in the true sense of that word) first book encompassing watch making, Irish rebels, life in Victorian London, Samurai - I must have missed something. Just read it and you'll know what I mean. ;-);-)

    Split infinities

A clever and entertaining story weaving mathematics, chemistry, history, synesthesia and Japanese / English culture into one unique tale.
